CHAN: Sudan whip Nigeria 4-0 to end Super Eagles’ campaign

Nigeria’s campaign at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) ended in humiliation on Tuesday following a 4-0 defeat to Sudan in their final Group D match.

The home-based Super Eagles thought they had gone ahead in the 22nd minute when Anthony Ijoma finished off a swift counterattack, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Sudan took full advantage just three minutes later, breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute.

Nigeria’s woes deepened in the 44th minute when Sudan converted from the penalty spot to double their lead before halftime.

The second half offered no reprieve, as Sudan struck again in the 55th minute and sealed the rout with a fourth goal in the 62nd minute.

With the result, Nigeria remain bottom of Group D with no points and are mathematically out of the tournament, even with a game left against Congo.

Senegal and Sudan now share the top spot with four points each, while Congo sit third with a single point.

The heavy defeat has sparked outrage among fans and renewed calls for a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s home-based football structure.
