CAC blasts COZA Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo over remarks on Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola

The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) has issued a strong rebuttal to comments made by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), regarding the legacy of the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, the church’s first General Evangelist.

A viral video circulating on social media shows Fatoyinbo describing Apostle Babalola as “anointed,” but claiming that the grace upon the revered cleric’s life “dissipated” because he “had no money.”

He further questioned, “Where are his children?” — a remark many have described as sarcastic and disrespectful.

In a statement signed by CAC spokesperson Ade Alawode, the church said it generally refrains from responding to social media commentaries or controversies but found Fatoyinbo’s remarks too insensitive and misleading to ignore.

“In one of your trending messages on YouTube, you acknowledged that Apostle Babalola was highly anointed but ‘had no money,’ and then went on to ask sarcastically, ‘Where are his children?’ a question that was both insensitive and ill-informed,” the statement read.

The CAC maintained that equating anointing or ministerial success with material wealth is theologically unsound, quoting the words of Jesus Christ: “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, who died in 1959, is regarded as one of the most influential revivalists in Nigerian church history, known for his deep spirituality, healing ministry, and dedication to the gospel. The church noted that his legacy is measured not by personal riches but by the enduring impact of his ministry, which continues to inspire millions of Christians worldwide.

The CAC urged Christian leaders to exercise caution when speaking about pioneers of the faith, warning that careless remarks could mislead believers and distort biblical values.
