President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s Super Falcons with national awards and generous gifts in recognition of their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
At a special reception held on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of the 24 players. In addition, every player received a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment and a cash reward of $100,000.
The technical crew was also recognised for their efforts, with each member receiving $50,000.
Tinubu praised the team’s resilience and tactical brilliance after they staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in Rabat, clinching their record 10th continental title — an achievement tagged #MissionX.
“The Super Falcons have lifted the spirit of our nation and proven that when united, Nigeria is unstoppable,” the President said. “Your determination, teamwork, and excellence have brought pride to our country and inspired countless young Nigerians.”
The event was graced by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President.
