BREAKING: PDP announces date, venue for national convention
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rescheduled its elective national convention to November 15 and 16, 2025, and announced a change in venue to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
This development was disclosed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, while addressing journalists shortly after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
According to Ologunagba, the convention will be used to elect a new set of National Working Committee (NWC) members who will pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years. He added that the decision to move the date and location was part of efforts to enhance inclusivity and logistical convenience for delegates and stakeholders.
In his remarks during the NEC meeting, Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, said that several members who left the PDP to join a political coalition have returned to the party. He described the coalition as an “experiment that failed.”
Damagum emphasized that those who left had now realized that the PDP remains the most viable platform for achieving lasting democratic progress. “Many of them confessed they never truly left the PDP and have now returned to strengthen our unity,” he said.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to repositioning itself as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the party has the necessary structure, experience, and national reach to lead Nigeria forward.
The upcoming convention is expected to mark a significant step in the PDP’s efforts to rebuild and consolidate its base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
