Tension gripped commuters and passersby on Thursday morning after a train coach detached from its main body along the Ladipo stretch of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, disrupting movement and triggering panic in the area.

The incident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., involved a train traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa, Lagos. The rear coach unexpectedly broke off mid-journey, forcing the train to a sudden stop.

Eyewitness Oloruntoba Omodele described the scene as chaotic. “Everyone was shocked by what happened, but thankfully, no one was hurt,” he said.

The situation caused a temporary standstill lasting over 30 minutes, worsening traffic congestion in the Ladipo axis — an area already notorious for gridlock and transport-related incidents.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly to clear the scene and restore order, easing the traffic buildup caused by the disruption.

While the cause of the mechanical fault remains unclear, calls are mounting for an immediate investigation and improved rail maintenance, especially in busy urban corridors like Lagos.
