BREAKING: Nigerian state loses electoral commission chairman

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, has passed away.
Hardawa, who previously served as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba and Nasarawa States, died in Abuja on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
In a condolence message issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed described Hardawa’s death as a great loss to both the state and the country.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Bauchi State, I extend our heartfelt condolences over the passing of Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa,” the governor said.
He praised the late chairman as a dedicated public servant and seasoned administrator who served with distinction and left behind a legacy of honesty, commitment, and service.
Governor Mohammed also highlighted Hardawa’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly during his time as a Resident Electoral Commissioner.
Funeral details are expected to be announced by the family.
