BREAKING: Kwara court sentences popular cleric to d£ath for murd£r of student

A Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has sentenced an Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Mohad (also known as Mohammed A. Bello), to death by hanging for the ritual killing of Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Hannah Ajayi ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, establishing that the cleric murdered the young woman for ritual purposes.
The incident, which shocked the Ilorin community, occurred on February 10, 2025, when Hafsoh went missing after receiving a phone call while attending a naming ceremony. Her disappearance led to a police investigation, which ultimately traced her last call to Mohad.
Based on the police First Information Report (FIR), Mohad and other suspects were accused of being part of a ritualist group. However, the court discharged and acquitted four co-defendants: Ahmed Abulwasiu, Sulaiman Muhydeen, Jamiu Uthman, and AbdulRahman Jamiu, citing insufficient evidence against them.
Justice Ajayi’s ruling brings partial closure to a case that has drawn widespread attention and condemnation.
