BREAKING: Ghana loses top officials in tragic helicopter crash
Eight people, including two serving ministers in the Ghanaian government, have been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash in the southern Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The victims include Minister of Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. The aircraft was reportedly flying from Accra to the mining town of Obuasi when it went down under unclear circumstances.
Confirming the incident, Chief of Staff to the President, Julius Debrah, said the crash also claimed the lives of:

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
Squadron Leader Peter (surname not disclosed)
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
Sergeant Ernest Addo
In response to the tragedy, the Ghanaian government has declared a national period of mourning, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast across the country.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash, which has plunged the nation into grief and raised serious concerns about the safety of official air travel.
