A massive fire on Friday night gutted the headquarters of Fresh 105.9 FM, a radio station owned by renowned gospel musician Yinka Ayefele.
The incident occurred at the station’s head office in the Challenge area of Ibadan, also housing its sister station, Blast 98.3 FM.
Confirming the development, Samson Akindele, Head of Corporate Affairs for Fresh FM Nigeria and Yinka Ayefele Limited, described the fire as “devastating,” noting that it caused significant damage to the broadcasting facility.
“We are sad to inform the general public that the head office of Fresh FM Nigeria, Challenge Ibadan, was razed by a devastating fire incident on August 15, 2025,” the statement read.
According to Akindele, the blaze destroyed the main studios of both Fresh 105.9 and Blast 98.3, as well as adjoining offices, including the newsroom, transmitter room, server room, and several sections containing essential broadcasting equipment.
Efforts by staff members to contain the fire using in-house fire extinguishers before the arrival of professional firefighters proved unsuccessful due to the intensity of the flames.
“We cannot immediately quantify the extent of the damage, and the cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained,” Akindele said.
He expressed heartfelt appreciation to residents of the area, passersby, and officials of the Oyo State Fire Service who responded swiftly to help fight the fire.
“We heartily appreciate all good-spirited Nigerians who joined us in battling the inferno, from the residents around our studio complex who were the first responders, to passersby, and the Oyo State Fire Service officials. We thank everyone for their assistance during the emergency,” the statement concluded.
