BREAKING: Ebonyi Governor suspends 87 officials over absenteeism at government function

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 87 government officials for failing to attend a crucial state function.

According to a statement issued on Monday night by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, the affected officials include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.

Uzor said the suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month without salary. He added that the officials are barred from signing any official documents during the suspension period.

The statement read in part: “The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function.”

Commissioners have been instructed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries, while those already serving as permanent secretaries must cease all official duties pending further notice.

Governor Nwifuru, according to the statement, is committed to upholding discipline and a high standard of responsibility in public service.

“The governor remains firm in ensuring that all government officials uphold the highest standards of conduct and dedication in serving the people of Ebonyi State,” Uzor emphasized.
