BREAKING: Court issues final order stopping PDP’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan

Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a final order halting the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2025 National Convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The convention, set for November 15 and 16, was expected to produce new national officers for the opposition party. However, the judge ruled that the event cannot proceed under the current circumstances.
Delivering judgment on Friday in a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, Justice Lifu restrained the PDP from going ahead with the convention until it fully complies with its Constitution and Guidelines.
The court specifically ordered that the convention be suspended until Lamido is allowed to purchase a nomination form to contest for the position of National Chairman.
Justice Lifu also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising, monitoring or providing any form of support for the Ibadan convention until Lamido is permitted to participate.
According to the judge, the PDP has a strict obligation to follow its internal rules and ensure that all eligible members are given equal opportunity to realise their political ambitions within the party.
He ruled that the party acted wrongly by denying Lamido the chance to obtain the nomination form, stressing that such actions violate the principles of fairness and internal democracy.
The judgment effectively puts the PDP’s convention preparations on hold until the party complies with the court’s directives.
