BREAKING: Billionaire businessman Oscar Ibru passes away
Nigeria’s business community is in mourning following the death of billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Olorogun Oscar Ibru.
Family sources confirmed that the scion of the Ibru dynasty and chairman of the Ibru Organisation died on Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 67.
Born on August 11, 1958, Ibru was the eldest son of the late industrialist Michael Ibru and one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s corporate landscape.
Over the decades, he played a pivotal role in the growth of the Ibru Organisation, expanding its interests across diverse sectors including shipping, aviation, agriculture, oil and gas, and real estate.
An alumnus of the London School of Economics, Ibru carved a name for himself beyond the family empire. He earned wide respect for his business acumen, vibrant social lifestyle, and philanthropy—particularly in education, healthcare, and the arts.
He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family members.
The Ibru family is expected to release an official statement with funeral arrangements in the coming days.
