BREAKING: Benue Speaker Aondona Dajoh resigns
The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has resigned from his position.
In a letter to the Clerk of the Assembly dated Sunday, August 24, Dajoh said his decision was made “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”
He thanked colleagues for their support and pledged to continue serving his Gwer West Constituency as a legislator.
Shortly after tendering his resignation, Dajoh shared a copy of the letter on Facebook with the caption: “Let there be peace.”
His resignation follows days of political tension in the Assembly, where four members were suspended over an alleged plot to remove him. Governor Hyacinth Alia has denied any involvement in the crisis.
The Assembly is expected to move quickly to elect a new Speaker.
