The Benue State House of Assembly has once again amended the law governing the state-owned university in Makurdi, approving a shorter name for the institution.

With the new amendment, the university will now be officially known as Father Adasu University, Makurdi, replacing the longer title, Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.

The decision followed the consideration of a report by the House Standing Committee on Higher Education during Thursday’s plenary.

Leading the debate, Majority Leader Mr. Saater Tiseer (APC/Mbagwa) argued that the previous name was unnecessarily lengthy and that a more concise version would be more practical.

DAILY POST recalls that the institution was originally called Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi before it was renamed in December 2024.

In the same session, lawmakers also approved amendments upgrading the College of Education, Katsina-Ala and the College of Education, Oju into degree-awarding institutions.

Presiding Speaker Mr. Alfred Emberga directed the Clerk of the House, Dr. Bem Mela, to read the bills for a third time before declaring them passed.
