Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has asserted that Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, was the actual winner of Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Tonight on Monday, Lawal said that based on the facts and data available to him, Obi emerged victorious, despite Bola Tinubu being officially declared the country’s 16th president.

Lawal, known for his outspoken criticism of the current administration, insisted that President Tinubu did not legitimately win the election. He stated, “The result available to me at that time showed he didn’t win the election.”

Addressing the tensions between him and President Tinubu, Lawal said, “The problem with Bola Tinubu is that he thinks I’m the one that offended him. I didn’t offend him, he offended me. He is full of himself and believes he is now so-called president… I believe he didn’t win the election.”

Lawal claimed that his team monitored the election closely, gathering data and overseeing results from polling units, and alleged that some results were manipulated.

When asked about Tinubu’s offence against him, Lawal described him as “arrogant,” adding, “The guy has an arrogance that belies definitions.”
