APC slams Gov Adeleke over ‘unannounced’ foreign trip, govt fires back

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for reportedly travelling abroad without officially informing the public or transferring power to his deputy, sparking concerns over a leadership vacuum in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi described the governor’s silence and extended absence—now over two weeks—as “abnormal” and “irresponsible.”

“It is wrong for Governor Adeleke to disappear without informing the citizens or the legislature. Who has been governing Osun in his absence?” Olabisi queried.

The party claimed the governor’s trip followed his alleged failed defection attempt to the APC, calling the situation “suspicious” and lacking transparency.

“Did he constitutionally transmit power to his deputy? The people deserve to know,” the APC added, noting that Adeleke’s unexplained absence had become a major talking point across the state.

In a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that the governor had travelled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew and music star, David Adeleke (Davido).

Dismissing the APC’s claims as political mischief, Rasheed said Adeleke had not taken any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022.

“The governor left via the family’s private jet a few days ago to join in the family celebration,” Rasheed said, assuring the public that Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi is fully in charge and in constant communication with the governor.

He further invited the opposition party to partake in the wedding, either physically or virtually, adding: “His Excellency has made this a short trip and will return promptly to attend to pressing state matters.”
