Anti-robbery unit leader matchetes lounge owner in Osun

A businessman in Osogbo, Osun State, Adekunle Ayomide, has accused the second-in-command of the state’s Anti-Robbery Squad, Adedokun Yusuf, of assaulting him with a machete over a minor disagreement at his lounge.

The incident reportedly occurred last Friday when Yusuf visited the lounge to relax but got into an argument with one of the female staff. Ayomide said he cautioned his workers to return to their posts to avoid crowding around a single customer, which allegedly angered the officer.

According to him, Yusuf felt embarrassed and vowed to “teach him a lesson.” Moments later, the officer allegedly returned with three men in a pink Toyota Corolla, one wearing a police jacket, who forced Ayomide into another vehicle and took him to the Anti-Robbery office at the police headquarters.

“When we got there, Yusuf took a cutlass while another officer picked up a big stick. They ordered me to lie on the floor and began beating me. Yusuf hit me several times with the cutlass until I was badly injured,” Ayomide recounted.

He said his friends later secured his release around 6:30 p.m. and called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, to ensure justice.

“It’s sad that a police officer could come to my business to relax and end up brutalising me for no reason,” he added.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command was aware of the case and had begun an investigation into the officer’s conduct.

“The matter is under investigation, and the command is determined to uncover the truth,” he said.
