Anthony Ujah: Former Super Eagles striker announces retirement from football
Former Nigeria international striker, Anthony Ujah, has announced his retirement from professional football, drawing the curtain on a career that spanned almost two decades across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The 34-year-old confirmed his decision in an emotional post on Instagram on Thursday, where he expressed gratitude to fans, coaches, teammates, and clubs who supported him throughout his journey in the game.
Ujah began his professional career in Nigeria before moving abroad to join Lillestrøm SK in Norway, where his impressive performances earned him a move to the German Bundesliga.
In Germany, he featured for several clubs, including Mainz 05, 1. FC Köln, Werder Bremen, Union Berlin, and most recently, Eintracht Braunschweig. Known for his work rate, strength, and eye for goal, Ujah became a respected figure in the Bundesliga during his time there.
His career also took him to Asia, where he played for Liaoning Whowin in the Chinese Super League, as well as Eastern Europe, with a spell at Bulgarian side Poet Boldivd.
On the international stage, Ujah represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria, earning caps and contributing to the national team during his time with the squad.
Ujah’s retirement marks the end of a journey defined by dedication and resilience, as tributes continue to pour in from former teammates, fans, and clubs he represented.
