Manchester United Onana edges closer to club exit

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana looks set to leave Old Trafford on loan, with reports confirming that he has agreed to join Turkish side Trabzonspor.

According to The Athletic, Trabzonspor will cover Onana’s full salary and offer additional bonuses that could nearly double the wages he earned at United. The deal does not include a transfer fee or an option for the Turkish club to make the move permanent.

The Cameroon international, who joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 for £48 million, arrived with high expectations but has endured a difficult spell marked by costly errors. His struggles culminated in being dropped from Ruben Amorim’s plans, leaving him with no permanent suitors.

Onana’s departure follows a particularly challenging period, including his role in United’s shock Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town, where he conceded 12 of 13 penalties in the shootout.

With Onana set to leave, Ruben Amorim has turned to 23-year-old Senne Lammens as his new first-choice goalkeeper. Lammens joined United from Royal Antwerp on deadline day for £18 million, though fans remain cautious given the club’s recent struggles in securing a reliable number one.
