Air Peace flight veers off runway at Port Harcourt airport
Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has confirmed that one of its flights, P47190, veered slightly off the runway upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning.
The flight, which departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, experienced what aviation experts term a “runway excursion”—an incident where an aircraft departs from the designated runway during landing or takeoff.
In a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Mr. Osifo-whiskey Efe, the aircraft sustained no damage, and all passengers onboard disembarked safely and without injury.
“We reassure the flying public of our unwavering commitment to the highest safety standards across all our operations,” Efe stated.
The incident marks the second reported runway excursion in the country within seven months. On December 11, 2024, an Allied Air cargo flight, a Boeing 737-400 (5N-JRT), also experienced a runway excursion after landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
That aircraft, arriving from Lagos as flight AJK206, veered off the right side of Runway 22 and came to a stop on the grassy verge, though no injuries were reported.
Air Peace says it is cooperating fully with aviation authorities to ensure thorough post-incident checks and maintain passenger confidence.
