Adeleke clinches Accord party gov ticket

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has clinched the Accord Party’s governorship ticket today, ahead of the August 8, 2026 election.

Adeleke, who was the sole aspirant in the primary conducted in Osogbo, secured 145 out of the 150 valid votes cast by delegates from the state’s 30 local government areas. Five votes were declared invalid.

Announcing the results, Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, said the exercise was transparent and witnessed by agents of the aspirant as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission. He then declared Adeleke winner of the primary.

The primary was held under tight security, with armed police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services stationed at the venue. INEC officials were also on ground to observe the process. Present at the event were Adeleke, his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and several political appointees. However, key PDP figures in the state—including party chairman Sunday Bisi, Speaker Wale Egbedun, state lawmakers, and National Assembly members were notably absent.

The national leadership of the Accord Party, led by Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem, was in attendance.

Adeleke had on Tuesday formally announced his defection to the Accord Party, explaining that he joined the party on November 6 after extensive consultations. He said the party’s ideology of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare, pledging to continue delivering good governance if re-elected.
