ADC speaks on ‘Peter Obi returning to PDP’

Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, cannot afford to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abdullahi made the assertion on Monday during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time, while reacting to reports that the PDP is attempting to woo Obi back ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Let me say clearly, Peter Obi is in the coalition,” Abdullahi affirmed. “Regardless of what anybody is saying. But it is good to see that it has taken the coming on board of ADC to get PDP to begin to make some movements.”

He added that the PDP’s influence has waned significantly, claiming that “the jugular of the PDP is in the hands of the ruling party.”

According to him, Obi, who left the PDP in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambition on the platform of the Labour Party, understands the political risks involved in returning to the party.

“Peter Obi, more than anyone else, knows that he cannot take the risk of going to the PDP,” he said.

Obi is currently part of a broader coalition of opposition figures working to present a united front against President Bola Tinubu’s government in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
