2027: Why I want to be Oyo State Governor

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and prominent Nigerian lawyer, Chief Niyi Aborisade, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

Aborisade, who is also a renowned human rights activist, made the declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with party stakeholders and supporters in Egbeda Local Government Area of Ibadan, the state capital.

Addressing the gathering, Aborisade said his ambition is rooted in a desire to serve with integrity and vision, adding that he is fully prepared to lead the state toward greater development.

“I am up to the task. I want to move this state forward and ensure Oyo becomes one of the best in the country,” he said. “I believe I have what it takes to deliver good governance to our people.”

He noted that his decision to run was inspired by the performance of Governor Seyi Makinde, whose administration, he said, has made notable progress across key sectors. Aborisade pledged to build on the governor’s legacy while introducing new policies to improve the lives of residents.

“As a human rights activist for over three decades, I have always advocated for accountable leadership,” he said. “Now is the time to bring that leadership to Oyo State.”

He expressed confidence in clinching the PDP ticket, insisting that his experience, popularity, and commitment to public service place him ahead of other aspirants.

“I am the best candidate for the job, and I’m confident in my ability to win and serve the people effectively,” he added.

With his declaration, Aborisade joins a growing list of aspirants eyeing the Oyo State governorship seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
