2027: PDP hints on offering Goodluck Jonathan automatic presidential ticket

Goodluck Jonathan
The National Financial Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daniel Woyengikuro, has hinted that the party could grant former President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic ticket to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Woyengikuro made the remarks during an interview with Vanguard, noting that while such a decision would depend on Jonathan’s willingness to return and play a more active role in the party, he believes the former president remains the PDP’s most viable option.
“Is he not the best candidate for us at this moment? He is not just a former president; he is the leader of the party now,” Woyengikuro stated. “Aside from [former President Olusegun] Obasanjo, the next person in line is him. Goodluck Jonathan is the national leader of this party.”
Responding to a direct question on whether the PDP would consider an automatic ticket for Jonathan, he said, “For me, that’s what I firmly stand for. You can quote me anywhere — I want him to come. An automatic ticket for him, as it stands now. Because we must salvage both this party and the nation.”
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 under the PDP, has yet to publicly indicate interest in returning to partisan politics or contesting future elections.
