2027: Focus is on a better Nigeria, not personal ambition

Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that his priority is building a better Nigeria, rather than seeking the presidency for himself.

The statement came during a ceremony on Saturday in Lagos, where prominent politicians, including former PDP and Labour Party members, formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking through his representative, Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Abubakar emphasized that ADC represents a movement for national progress. “It’s not about Atiku being president. It’s about good governance that delivers for Nigerians,” Olateju said.

He described the party as a platform for repositioning Nigeria, adding, “It’s no longer politics as usual. We need a new beginning, and that’s what Atiku is championing.”

Abubakar also highlighted national challenges, including fuel subsidy removal and rising inflation, stressing that effective leadership is key to overcoming them. On ADC’s 2027 presidential candidate, he said the choice would be determined by party members through a fair process.

Notable defectors joining ADC include PDP Board of Trustees member Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu; former Lagos PDP chairmen Chief Muritala Ashorobi and Retired Capt. Tunji Shelle; PDP Vice Chairman (Lagos Central); and former PDP Youth Leader Mr. Tai Benedict. They were welcomed by ADC national leaders, including National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and State Chairman George Ashiru.
