Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, under the Concerned APC Patriots (CAP), have rejected the nomination of Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye as Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s running mate for the 2026 gubernatorial election.

In a statement by CAP convener Joshua Ademola, the group criticized Afuye’s capacity for the role, citing her lack of educational qualifications and minimal contributions over her three years in office.

They argued that critical deputy governor duties are often delegated elsewhere or ignored and called for a more educated and capable candidate, while clarifying they are not against a female or Ekiti South nominee.

They warned that Afuye’s nomination could harm the party’s chances and urged the APC to find a replacement.

Responding, APC Ekiti Publicity Secretary Segun Dipe dismissed the criticism as mere opinion, praising Afuye’s competence and loyalty.

He noted the party does not control the deputy governor’s selection, implying the decision is beyond their authority.
